A WOMAN, 25, is facing a cyber harassment charge at a Waigani Committal Court for allegedly forwarding a defamatory post against PNG State Enterprises Minister William Duma, accusing him of robbing K5 million. Magistrate Albert Daniels told Annarita Vagi, from Kamlawa village, Finschhafen, Morobe, that the case was highly sensitive and the court would allow her to speak with her lawyer before making a plea next week. “The court will give you two weeks to discuss with your lawyer before making a plea since your case has been transferred from the committal court to grade five court as elected by the Office of the Public Prosecutor,” Daniels told Vagi. Office of the Public Solicitor lawyer Kim Watakapura representing Vagi, told the court that she was yet to get instructions from her lawyer before she could make a plea. “I may ask the court for a week’s adjournment so I can consult my client before she can make her plea,” he said.
“I was appearing in court when the matter was in committal court. “Now that it was elected by the Office of the Public Prosecutor, I need to get instructions from my client before we return to court.” Magistrate Daniels told Watakapura to get instructions from his client and let the court know about the status of the case. Police prosecutor Sgt Joseph Sangam said the prosecution had no objection with the adjournment. “The court can adjourn for a week for the defendant to talk to her lawyer before she can make a plea,” he said. It was alleged that last April 9, Vagi as the administrator of the WhatsApp forum, PNG Politics, received a message from someone known as Solomon on the phone. The message reads “Duma also robbed Telikom of K5 million”. It further stated “Amos Tepi the CEO and the other top managers got their share of that money”. Vagi allegedly forwarded the WhatsApp message the next day. The National / PNG Tech Times Next : Defective Switch Cuts Off Internet In PNG Comments are closed.
